AFNAD are committed to supporting the professional development of our members and creating spaces to share and learn. We’re launching a new series of online learning sessions - bringing members together to hear from a range of different people and organisations, doing important work, in ways that reflect strong, culturally grounded approaches.
We’re excited that our first session in this series will be with the Wiyi Yani U Thangani Institute for First Nations Gender Justice.
The Wiyi Yani U Thangani Institute, based at the Australian National University, is Australia's first Institute dedicated to advancing the rights, knowledges, and leadership of First Nations women, girls and gender-diverse peoples as catalysts for systemic change. The Institute is founded by June Oscar AO, who led the landmark Wiyi Yani U Thangani (Women's Voices) project as former Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner at the Australian Human Rights Commission.
Members of the Wiyi Yani U Thangani team will be running a 90-minute online session for AFNAD members. The session will offer an opportunity to hear directly about the Institute’s work, including their approaches to systems change, and how they centre First Nations ways of knowing, being and doing in their work. The conversation will also explore how they think about monitoring, evaluation and learning, and the signals they hear, see and sense.
There will be space for yarning and shared reflection, and we warmly encourage all members to come along. This as a valuable learning session for members, regardless of your role or focus area. Hope to see you there!
